The SAT Subject Test in U.S. History remains one of the most popular SAT Subject Tests, second only to Math II. Preparation for a successful U.S. History examination requires a little more than simply attending the standard U.S. History and Social Studies classes given in high school. The test tends to emphasize transitions in U.S. History, especially in foreign policy, social trends and policies. Often, high school U.S. History classes focus on events and facts and ignore their impact on changes in the country or how events relate to one another. Therefore, any student intending on taking this exam would be well served by taking an honors-level or AP class in their junior year, concluding with the SAT Subject Test in May or June. The exam covers U.S. History from the pre-Columbian era to present day, with an emphasis on the late 18th century forward. The test is merely one hour in duration, and requires you to answer 90-95 multiple choice questions.
